What is an NFL team wheel?
An NFL team wheel is a spinner with one slice for each team in the National Football League. You spin it, it stops on a team, and that's your pick. It's a quick, fair way to choose when nobody wants to argue about who gets the Chiefs.
Which teams are on the wheel?
All 32 NFL teams, split into two conferences of 16, with four teams in each of eight divisions.
| Division | Teams |
|---|---|
| AFC East | Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, New York Jets |
| AFC North | Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers |
| AFC South | Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans |
| AFC West | Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers |
| NFC East | Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Commanders |
| NFC North | Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings |
| NFC South | Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers |
| NFC West | Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks |
Is the wheel really random?
Yes. Each team has an equal chance on every spin (1 in 32, or about 3.1%, with all teams on the wheel). Past spins don't affect the next one, so the same team can come up twice in a row. If you don't want repeats, remove each team after it's picked.
How to use the NFL team wheel
- 1
Choose your teams. Keep all 32, or narrow the wheel to the AFC, the NFC or one division.
- 2
Spin. Tap or click the wheel.
- 3
Read the result. The wheel stops on one team.
- 4
Spin again or remove the team. Take the winner off the wheel if you're handing out teams one by one and don't want repeats.
Practical use cases
- Madden and other football games. Spin once for each player so nobody can claim the other got the better roster. Remove each team after it's picked so you don't both get the same one.
- Fantasy football draft order. Put the managers' names on a wheel instead, then use the team wheel for league side bets like "worst-record team's owner buys dinner".
- Watch parties. Give each guest a team to follow for the day. Whoever's team scores first (or wins) gets bragging rights.
- Pick'em and survivor pools. Break a tie or force a wild-card pick when you're stuck between two games.
- Trivia and classroom games. Spin a team, then ask a question about it: stadium, division, famous player, home city.
- Picking a team to follow. New to football or want a change? Let the wheel hand you a team to follow for a season.
- Challenges. "Draft a fantasy lineup using only players from the team the wheel picks."
Tips
- Narrow the wheel for fairer games. Dropping to one conference gives you 16 slices and makes each spin bigger on screen.
- Remove after each spin when you're assigning teams to several people.
- Set the rules before the spin. Agree on what the result means (a team to play with, a team to root for, a trivia topic) so nobody renegotiates afterward.
- Spin on a big screen for group games. Casting it to the TV makes the reveal part of the fun.
- Need a different list? Make your own wheel with just your favorite teams or a custom set.
